Sayreville War Memorial High School Media Center: Celebrate Banned Books Week

Once a Bomber, Always a Bomber

What is Banned Books Week?

Banned Books Week celebrates our freedom to read!  It is held annually the last week of September, and spotlights current and historical events that have taken place to censor books in schools, libraries and bookstores.  In 1982, the Supreme Court ruled that school officials cannot ban books in libraries for their content alone.  However, censorship is an ongoing problem.  In 2019, 610 materials were affected in censorship attempts. This is a +14% increase from the year before.  Never stop protecting your right to read!
